Last year there were 3 events at Lake Louise: two downhills and a Super G, but two of them had to be cancelled due to weather conditions. This year, there will be only two: two downhills, on October 26 and 27. This will be the fourth city to host a World Cup event, after Sölden and Zürs in Austria, and Zermatt-Cervinia in Italy and Switzerland. After Canada, the skiers will go to the USA, then to France, Italy, Germany, and Switzerland.

Which Alpine Skier Should You Bet on at the Lake Louise Men’s Alpine Skiing World Cup?

Here are our four favourites to win the final race at Lake Louise:

  • Marco Odermatt: the 24-year-old Swiss skier is the reigning world champion but failed to snag a podium finish last season in Canada. For his first Winter Olympics (Beijing 2022), Odermatt won the Gold in the giant slalom and finished 7th in the downhill. He had not competed in the Super G. His world championship win is rated at 1.55 on Myriadplay Sports.
  • Matthias Mayer: the experienced 32-year-old Austrian skier is the defending champion in Lake Louise. 4th in last year's world rankings, he has only won this race but has featured on the podium 7 times. At the Winter Olympics, he won 3 gold medals and a bronze medal, only in downhill and Super G, a versatility that could be useful. His world championship win is rated at 18 on Myriadplay Sports.
  • Vincent Kriechmayr: fifth overall last year, he finished second in the Lake Louise event. At 30 years, he has still not won a single Olympic medal, neither in Pyeongchang in Korea nor in Beijing in 2022. Sometimes excellent, he lacks consistency, capable of the best (3 wins and 6 podiums), as well as the worst. His victory in the world championship is rated at 23 on Myriadplay Sports.
  • Beat Feuz: sixth overall last year, he finished on the last step of the podium in the Canadian event last year. In 2022, he gleaned Olympic gold on the downhill for the first time in his career, after winning silver and bronze four years ago. His world championship win is rated at 101 on Myriadplay Sports.

Who Are The Canadian Alpine Skiers To Watch At The 2022 Men's Alpine Skiing World Cup

The world's best skiers are European or American, while few Canadian skiers can play a spoiler role. However, one name caught our attention: James Crawford. The 25-year-old Toronto native has already hit his stride and is coming into his own at the World Cup. 14th last season, including a second-place, finish in Kvitfjell, Norway, he competed in the Winter Olympics for the second time in his career. Here are his performances in this field:

Edition Downhill Super G Giant Slalom Combined
Pyeongchang 2018 Olympics/Withdrawal 29th 20th
Beijing 2022 Olympics4th6th/Bronze Medal

We could also mention Broderick Thompson or Cameron Alexander, the other two top skiers in the country. They could make a strong showing in the Lake Louise 2022 ski downhill.
