Bet on who will be the Next Prime Minister of the UK?
Liz Truss is the current Prime Minister and though she may have once polled well with Tory party members, she doesn't now. Following the disastrous mini-budget and consequent sacking of Kwasi Kwarteng as Chancellor she's still barely holding on by her fingernails and challengers are openly beginning to move against her.
Who is Going to be the Next PM?
So far, barring from a yet unannounced general election, the candidates for the next Prime Minister are among the Conservative Party front benches.
Rishi Sunak
Former Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak, quit his post and launched his campaign to lead the Tory party only a short period after Boris announced his resignation. Sunak was caught in the glare of the media when it transpired that his millionaire wife paid no taxes. Rishi Sunak will be seen as someone less likely to damage the economy after Truss, but he may have a hard time getting the support of Boris' loyalists.
Rishi Sunak Odds
17/10
Penny Mordaunt
Penny Mordaunt is one of the lesser-known PM contenders. Her pros are that she is a former Naval servicewoman and hasn’t received the press backlash that Boris or Sunak have been exposed to. Her cons are yet to be revealed, which means she might have to work hard to make sure that there are no revealed skeletons in her closet. She is yet to lay out her master plan when it comes to the economy and tell us of her social policies. Not only is she going to have to convince her own party members, but come a General Election, the unknown will need to win over an entire nation.
Penny Mordaunt Odds
4/1
Jeremy Hunt
Former Health Minister and former contender for leader of the conservative party (losing to Boris) Jeremy Hunt was parachuted into the Chancellery to clean up the shop after Kwasi Kwarteng was ignobly sacked. Having deferred responsibility of the economy to him, Truss may actually be effectively allowing him to craft the government's policy himself, putting him in a position to take over the top job once Truss steps aside.
Jeremy Hunt Odds
4/1
Boris Johnson
Boris Johnson, the previous Prime Minister, might not feel content with returning to the back benches. Will he stage a triumphant return to the top? He could do it! He's always been unpredictable, his charm amongst his supporters knows no ends and he should never be counted out.
Boris Johnson Odds
4/1
Theresa May
Another unexpected comeback of a former Prime Minister would be Theresa May! She could very well be seen as a competent, boring and safe caretaker PM while the country gets ready for a general election and the Tory party gets itself together.
Theresa May Odds
4/1
Tom Tugendhat
Of all the members of the Tory leadership, Tom Tugendhat may pose the biggest problem for Sir Kier Starmer (Labour leader) in a general election scenario. But does he still have the backing of the party? Well, in recent days, the gaps are appearing as party members distance themselves from him, as so far, he is the only candidate to publicly come out and start that Boris Johnson got things drastically wrong. Perhaps it was a timing issue, as he was a favourite frontrunner, until those with a bigger spotlight, crawled into the picture.
Kemi Badenoch
Kemi Badenoch is an outsider compared to all the other contenders. Her presence as a political figure is impressive, and all the right attributes are there as a human being but is perhaps a bit too clean for the role of Prime Minister. Should there be roles of this kind up for grabs in the future, then she will be the one to watch.
Michael Gove
Its no secret that Michael Gove has aspirations for the top office, even though he has been shown to never throw his hat into the ring. If everything were to go wrong for Liz Truss and Boris Johnson, he may show his cards and take the opportunity to lead the county on his own. A wild card bet for sure.
Keir Starmer
The current Labour leader, Keir Starmer isn't currently a valid contender as long as there is still no general election in the horizon. If there were to be, you can take your chances with General Election betting to wager if the UK will choose him to run the country instead of all of the above.
