When a new round of Premier League fixtures come around, there are always going to be some games that stand out more than others, and Chelsea heading up to Manchester to take on Manchester City is one of the matches of the round, in my opinion. Yes, Chelsea have been a little mediocre for most parts of the season, but when they all sing from the same hymn sheet then they can give anyone a good match. Will City pick up the points to keep the pressure on Liverpool, or will Chelsea improve their chances of a top-half finish. Check out my prediction below to find out what I think will happen.
🏆 Manchester City vs Chelsea: Who Will Win?
Manchester City went through a little slump around Christmas time, and pundits and some football fans started writing them off, which was something I could not get my head around. After all, they have at least two quality players in each position since FFP does not seem to apply for them. They got an easy win against Copenhagen in their mid-week Champions League clash, and have now won their previous 11 matches.
With the amount of money that Chelsea have spent recently on new players, their fans would have expected them to at least be battling it out for a Champions League spot. However, as things stand, all they are battling it out for is a mid-table finish with the likes of Fulham and Wolves. Despite this, they do have a lot of quality in their squad and can compete with the best when they are on song. It is just that they seem to be more off song than on.
I do not think that City will have it all of their own way in this match, but they should still have enough to come out on top. As for the scoreline, I reckon City will go on to win the game 3-1.
My Prediction: 🏆 Manchester City 3 Chelsea 1⚽
💯 Manchester City vs Chelsea Match Odds
Think of something that can happen in a game of football, and there is a really high chance that you will be able to put a bet on it happening. For instance, nowadays, you can put money on the number of goal kicks that one of the teams will have, which just showcases the type of betting variety which is on offer. Some of the most popular markets include the match winner, both teams to score, and over/under 2.5 goals, and these are what I am going to focus on for this Man City vs Chelsea match.
Below are the odds that some new UK betting sites and established ones are currently offering for the aforementioned markets. These bookmakers offer their customers a range of free bets, and you can find out more about their offers by clicking on the brand logos in the table.
Man City vs Chelsea: Match Winner Odds
The bookmakers, unsurprisingly so, have Manchester City as the overwhelming favourites to win this match. However, I am surprised by the long odds that they are offering for a Chelsea win - I think that they are better than those odds, which are a little bit harsh in my view. The odds for a City win are so short that they are not really worth pursuing as a single bet. You can check out the match winner odds in the following table:
Team | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Manchester City | 1.33 | 1.33 | 1.33 | 1.30 | 1.32 |
Draw | 5.50 | 5.50 | 5.25 | 5.80 | 5.80 |
Chelsea | 7.70 | 7.70 | 8.00 | 8.50 | 8.50 |
Manchester City vs Chelsea: Both Teams To Score Odds
When it comes to the both teams to score market, they are not as certain as they are for the match winner market. They are actually favouring both teams to find the back of the net, but equally, they would not be surprised if City managed to keep Chelsea out. I will not give you my view on this market now as that is what my next section of this guide is for. If you want to bet on BTTS, then below you can find the odds that are on offer:
Team | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Yes | 1.70 | 1.70 | 1.70 | 1.71 | 1.77 |
No | 2.08 | 2.08 | 2.05 | 1.93 | 2.00 |
Manchester City vs Chelsea: Over/Under 2.5 Goals Odds
The bookmakers' confidence returns with regard to the over/under 2.5 goals market, and I can see why they think that there will be at least three goals scored in this match. Whatever the outcome, I would be very surprised if this was a match that did not see at least three goals being scored in it. You can find the over/under 2.5 goals odds in the following table:
Team | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Over 2.5 | 1.42 | 1.42 | 1.45 | 1.44 | 1.49 |
Under 2.5 | 2.65 | 2.65 | 2.70 | 2.55 | 2.63 |
✔️ Manchester City vs Chelsea - Betting Tips
In this section of my guide, I am going to take the time to give you some of my top football betting tips for this Manchester City vs Chelsea game. However, before I go ahead and provide you with those ones, I need to remind you about the importance of gambling responsibly and never to try to recuperate any losses that you incur. Now that this important reminder is out of the way, let us move on to my betting advice:
- Tip 1: Add a City to win to an accumulator: City have won their previous 11 matches in all competitions, so to say that they have found their best form would be a bit of an understatement. Chelsea, on the other hand, are sitting in 9th in the EPL form table, having picked up 15 points from the last 30 that have been on offer. Out of the previous seven meetings between these two teams, City have won six and there has been one draw. If you want to add City to win to your accumulator, then Betiton Sport are offering odds of 1.33 at present.
- Tip 2: Bet on both teams to score: Although they have been winning all of their matches recently, they have not been their usual self when it comes to defending their goal. They are conceding more than we are used to seeing them concede, so I reckon that Chelsea will fancy their chances of finding the back of the net at least once. Both teams have scored in 75% of Chelsea's away matches and 64% of Manchester City's home matches, so I am backing BTTS in this match. At the time of writing, BetUK Sports are currently offering odds of 1.77.
- Tip 3: Bet on Phil Foden to score: If you like to place a bet on a particular player to find the back of the net in a match, then one player who is definitely worth highlighting for this market is Foden. He recently scored a hat-trick against Brentford to help them pick up three important points, and he also scored the third goal against Copenhagen on Tuesday evening in the UCL. If you want to back Foden to score, then you can find odds of 2.97 at Betiton Sport, which is pretty good value.
- Tip 4: Bet on Manchester City to 3-1: If you are the type of player that likes to put money on the correct score of a match, then I am predicting this match to finish 3-1 in City's favour. If you want to also back this result, then Mr. Mega Sports are offering odds 9.20 for this result.
1️⃣Manchester City Update
Manchester City are currently sitting in 2nd place in the table with 52 points from the 23 matches that they have played, and this leaves them just two points behind Liverpool, who are occupying top spot. However, crucially, City have a game in hand against Brentford, so they will be confident of winning that one.
Since their defeat to Aston Villa back in early December, they have picked up 22 points from the 24 that have been on offer. It is no coincidence that this return to form has coincided with the return of Kevin de Bruyne, who is the best midfielder in the league.

What injuries does Pep Guardiola have to deal with ahead of this clash with Chelsea? Well, he has four players out at present, and you can see these in the table below. Due to the size of their squad, they should definitely be able to cope with these absentees:
Player | Reason |
---|---|
Mateo Kovacic | Knock |
Bernado Silva | Ankle Injury |
Josko Gvardiol | Knock |
Jack Grealish | Groin Injury |
2️⃣Chelsea Update
Chelsea fans would have been hoping that their team would be fighting it out for one of the Champions League spots, but they will have to contend themselves with the Carabao Cup final and a run in the FA Cup instead. Still, if they do go on and win a title, it will be better than what Spurs achieve this year.
The Blues have been either feast or famine over the last ten matches, picking up five wins and five defeats. Although, in all honesty, the best that they could hope for in this match is a draw. Not that I think that they will get this.
