The biggest match of Round 17 of the Premier League takes place at Anfield on Sunday evening as Liverpool welcome their rivals, Manchester United. There is no love lost between these two teams, so drama and entertainment really should not be in short supply here. Liverpool are sitting at the top of the EPL table, while Manchester United are somehow in sixth place despite having suffered 7 defeats already. Who will claim bragging rights and the three points in this huge match? Well, check out my prediction below to find out my thoughts.
🏆 Liverpool vs Manchester United
Liverpool have had a fantastic season so far, losing just the one match - this was against Tottenham and was a match that was marred by several VAR controversies. From their previous 10 matches in all competitions, they have won 7, drawn 2, and lost 1. They have averaged 2.3 goals per match in this run while conceding 0.90 per match. They have not been playing brilliant football all season, but they have been picking up wins, and that is all that truly matters.
Manchester United have received a lot of stick so far for their performances, but all is not lost in the EPL as they are currently just 6 points adrift of Manchester City in 4th place. In their last 10 Premier League matches, they have won 6 and lost 4. This run has included big defeats to Newcastle United and Bournemouth, while they scrapped wins against the likes of Luton, Sheffield United, and Fulham. They have only managed 18 goals in 16 matches, which is one of the lowest in the league.
The last time these two teams met at Anfield, Liverpool went on to win by 7-0. I do not think it will be such an easy win for Liverpool this time, but I do think they will win to solidify their place at the top of the table. United usually up their game against Liverpool, so I am going for a 3-1 win to the home side.
My Prediction: 🏆 Liverpool 3 Manchester United 1 ⚽
💯 Liverpool vs Manchester United Match Odds
Whether you are gambling at new UK betting sites or established ones, you will not struggle to find a wide range of markets that you can consider betting on. However, out of them all, the three that I tend to focus on include the match winner, both teams to score, and over/under 2.5 goals. Below I have selected 5 top bookies and provided you with their odds for these popular markets.
Many bookies nowadays offer a range of free bets, and you can find out more about the ones that the below bookmakers are offering simply by clicking on the respective logo.
Liverpool vs Manchester United: Match Winner Odds
Due to the difference in form between these two teams, it is not surprising to see Liverpool as the overwhelming favourites to go on and win this match. Below you can find the match winner odds, and they are not that enticing for those who want to back Liverpool to pick up the win. You might want to consider adding them into an accumulator, though.
Team | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Liverpool | 1.28 | 1.28 | 1.28 | 1.28 | 1.30 |
Draw | 5.75 | 5.75 | 5.80 | 5.00 | 5.80 |
Manchester United | 7.45 | 7.45 | 8.00 | 6.20 | 7.50 |
Liverpool vs Manchester United: Both Teams To Score Odds
Only Manchester City have managed to score more goals than Liverpool this season, while Manchester United, on their day, do have the attacking talent to trouble Liverpool's defence. As a result, I am not shocked to see that the bookies are backing both teams to score on Sunday evening. Below are the Both Teams to Score odds from my favourite bookmakers:
Yes/No | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Yes | 1.45 | 1.45 | 1.50 | 1.48 | 1.53 |
No | 2.49 | 2.49 | 2.50 | 2.35 | 2.37 |
Liverpool vs Manchester United: Over/Under 2.5 Goals Odds
All of the top bookmakers are in firm agreement that there will be more than 2.5 goals scored in this match. I can definitely see where they are coming from since I did predict above that Liverpool will win this match 3-1. Honestly, I would not recommend betting on such a market for this match since the odds are really short, meaning you would need to lay down a big stake for any decent potential returns.
Under/Over | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Over 2.5 Goals | 1.28 | 1.28 | 1.33 | 1.28 | 1.33 |
Under 2.5 Goals | 3.23 | 3.23 | 3.25 | 3.05 | 3.20 |
✔️ Liverpool vs Manchester United - Betting Tips
Let me now give you my top football betting tips for this big Liverpool vs Manchester United match.
- Tip 1: Liverpool to win and BTTS: The odds for a Liverpool win are really short, so I do not recommend that you make a solitary match bet. Instead, since I can see Liverpool winning but not keeping a clean sheet, I suggest that you put money on a Liverpool win and both teams to find the back of the net. At the time of writing, Betiton are offering odds of 2.22 for this outcome.
- Tip 2: Liverpool to win 3-1: If you are looking for a betting option that has much more enticing odds, then you could consider placing a bet on the final scoreline. I think Liverpool will come out on top 3-1, and those who agree with me can find odds of 11.00 for this outcome at William Hill.
- Tip 3: Liverpool to win by 2 goals: If you do not quite feel that Liverpool will win 3-1, then maybe you think they will win by a 2-goal margin. If so, then Spreadex Sports are currently offering odds of 4.00 for this market.
- Tip 4: Salah to Score: The Egyptian scored his 200th goal for Liverpool against Crystal Palace at the weekend, and he will be chomping at the bit to get at United's defence. I can see him getting his 201st Liverpool goal, and Betiton have odds of 1.87 on offer.
1️⃣ Liverpool Update
Heading into the 2023/24 EPL season, Liverpool were one of the favourites to go on and lift the title, behind Manchester City, of course, and they are living up to this tag. They have not been blowing teams away, but they are managing to pick up wins even when playing poorly, which, as they say, is the sign of a really good team. Not only are they outscoring every team in the league apart from Manchester City, but they also have the meanest defenders in the league, conceding just 15 goals in 16 matches so far.

Jurgen Klopp has a number of injuries that he needs to contend with for this match against Manchester United but, with the amount of money they have spent in recent seasons, they should have the squad depth to cope with their missing personnel. Below you can find all of the Liverpool absentees ahead of the weekend:
Player | Reason |
---|---|
Alexis Mac Allister | Knock |
Joel Matip | Knee Injury |
Stefan Bajcetic | Calf Injury |
Andy Robertson | Should Injury |
Diogo Jota | Muscle Injury |
Thiago | Hip Injury |
2️⃣ Manchester United Update
Manchester United and their fans will head to Liverpool in a sour mood as they were eliminated from the Champions League on Tuesday night - they finished at the bottom of their group, so they do not even have the consolation prize of dropping down to the Europa League. The Man United faithful are losing patience with Erik Ten Hag, and he must be living on borrowed time. If they get destroyed by Liverpool, then the Dutchman might be the next manager to get his marching orders.
Despite their turgid displays and their lack of goals, they are still in 6th place in the table, and they can now fully concentrate on earning a top-four spot now that they have no European football to look forward to in the New Year.

Ten Hag has many injuries hampering him, and he has been quick to use these as an excuse for why his team have been performing poorly as of late. However, he is not the only manager that has to deal with a lot of injuries. You can see all of the absentees for Man United in the following table:
