What is The Eurovision Song Contest?

The Eurovision Song Contest is a beloved competition uniting many different countries (mostly) in Europe. This international song contest is watched by millions around the world and shares some of the best and worst songs of the year. It was first introduced in 1956 and there has been a competition held every year, barring 2020. While many people think this is only a competition for the countries in Europe, this is in fact not true. The contest welcomes all countries that are members of the European Broadcasting Union, which is why we see entries from Australia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan to name a few.

Each country has three minutes to perform a song that has not been performed in public or publicly released more than seven months before the competition. Traditionally, six countries advance to the Grand Final. These are the Eurovision top 5, also known as the ‘Big 5’ which includes the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, France, Spain, and the hosting country. The remaining countries take part in two Semi-Final performances to qualify for the final round. In total, 26 countries perform and for 2024, the Grand Final is on the 14th of May.

It's customary that the winning country will be the next host of the competition. After Måneskin’s win last year, the song contest will be held in Turin, Italy.

How to Choose a Site When Betting for Eurovision

In recent years, the betting industry has become saturated with betting sites. While this gives a lot of choice for people looking for a platform to join, this is also a double edge swords as many find it difficult and too daunting to decide. In this section we will highlight some key points for you to consider when trying to choose the best site when betting for Eurovision 2022.

  • Safety: This tops our list as it should be the biggest factor to consider in your decision. It will also allow you to have peace of mind while placing wagers. Always check that a betting platform has a license and is fully regulated.

  • Wide Range of Markets: In the run-up to the Eurovision, or perhaps after the competition has finished, you might decide you want to place wagers on some different markets. We recommend that you find a betting site that has a decent choice of alternative options should you consider placing bets at another time.
  • Promotions: If the idea of promotions and bonuses piques your curiosity, keep your eyes open as it’s easy to find sites offering Welcome Bonuses, Free Bets, enhanced odds, Bet £5 and get £30 offers, and Spread Betting Offers .

Eurovision Tips 2024

If you want to place a Eurovision bet, keep in mind some of these useful Eurovision tips:

  • Research is Key: Get ahead of the competition and do your research on the artists and bands that will be performing. All the songs are available to listen to weeks and even months ahead of the competition, so this is the perfect time to listen to them and gauge the response from the public.
  • Past Winners: Cast your memory back to the previous winners of the competition. You get to see factors such as which country the winners were from (Ireland was the last entry to have consecutive wins from 1992 - 1994). You can also see what the trends in music are. Last year was a big entry for rock - will it be the same for 2024?
  • Know The Competition: Not everyone knows that there are also judges for the Eurovision who have some influence on the overall winner. While one of the highlights of the competition is to see which country gives their prized 12 points, the audience doesn’t completely choose the winners.
  • Tipsters: It’s easy to find different opinions on the internet from people who live and breathe Eurovision. They are known as tipsters and will often post their opinions about the competition online for free. It can be great to get a second opinion on things but remember that you should take every opinion into consideration, and any bets you place should be your decision only.
  • Research is Key:
