England and Sri Lanka will play in the 25th match of the 2023 CWC with the game taking place at Bangalore's M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on the 26th of October. Both of these sides have lost three matches already, so they know that one more loss will all but knock them out of the competition. So, who will stay alive in the tournament? Well, below you can see my main predictions for this game and the odds that my favourite cricket betting sites in the UK are offering.
💯 England v Sri Lanka Betting Odds
You will not struggle to find betting odds and a range of cricket markets at British bookies since this is one of the most popular sports in the United Kingdom, especially in England. However, you might struggle to find the best odds and betting sites due to how saturated the market is. This is where I come in handy as below you can find three top cricket markets and their odds from some of the best British bookmakers.
Match Winners Odds: England v Sri Lanka
If you are the kind of person that likes to bet on the match winner, then below are the match winner odds for England v Sri Lanka:
Team | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
England | 1.29 | 1.29 | 1.36 | 1.30 | 1.33 |
Sri Lanka | 2.92 | 2.92 | 3.10 | 3.00 | 3.25 |
Top Batsman Odds: England v Sri Lanka
Many sports bettors concentrate solely on the potential profit that can be made from a bet, but I truly feel that emphasis should be put on the entertainment that a particular market offers. One of the most entertaining markets in the sports betting industry for me is the top batsman market because it is almost as if you are facing every ball that your selected batsman faces.
I have chosen three England and Sri Lanka batters who could do well in this market, and I have provided their current top batsman odds:
England:
Player | ||
---|---|---|
Joe Root | 4.33 | 3.25 |
Dawid Malan | 3.75 | 3.25 |
Jos Buttler | 6.50 | 4.33 |
Sri Lanka:
Player | ||
---|---|---|
Kusal Mendis | 4.00 | 3.25 |
Pathum Nissanka | 4.00 | 3.25 |
Dimuth Karunaratne | 4.50 | 3.75 |
Top Wicket Taker Odds: England v Sri Lanka
Not everyone will be confident about predicting the top batsman, but there is another fun market in that case, which is the top wicket taker one. Here, you need to try and predict the bowler who will be the most successful and pick up the most wickets. With this market, you will be able to live every ball that your selected player bowls.
Below you can find three bowlers and their top wicket taker odds - I feel that these players are in with a very good shout for this market:
England:
Player | ||
---|---|---|
Adil Rashid | 4.00 | 3.5 |
David Willey | 4.33 | 3.60 |
Gus Atkinson | 4.33 | 3.75 |
Sri Lanka:
Player | ||
---|---|---|
Dilshan Madushanka | 3.75 | 3.25 |
Maheesh Theekshana | 4.00 | 3.00 |
Lahiru Kumara | 4.50 | 2.62 |
The above odds were correct at the time of writing. For updated odds, go to the bookmakers' sites.
🔍 England v Sri Lanka Match Winner Prediction
If England keep on playing how they have been playing lately, then they are, I would imagine, running the risk of putting up the worst defense of a CWC title ever seen. Apart from their game against the Bangladeshis, they have been really poor when it comes to their bowling and batting. I also do not think that they have been helped by Jos Buttler - he has made some strange decisions after winning the toss. Nobody can quite understand why he decided to field first in the scorching heat of Mumbai against South Africa.
Sri Lanka have only one win to their name as well, but they have played better cricket than England in my opinion. At least they bat with common sense and try different things when bowling in order to conjure wickets from flat pitches. On the other hand, England bat haphazardly, and their bowlers just bowl the same type of ball over and over again even though they are getting dispatched.
The sports betting sites have England as the big favourites for this game, but their odds must be made on reputation and now their current form. As I said, I feel that Sri Lanka are the better side at the moment, which is why I am ignoring the bookies' odds and going for a Sri Lanka win.
My England v Sri Lanka Winner Prediction: Sri Lanka to Win
✔️ England v Sri Lanka CWC Betting Tips
I am now going to give you some betting tips for this England v Sri Lanka match:
Match Winner: Sri Lanka to Win
When it comes to their head-to-head record, there is little to choose between the two nations - they have contested 78 ODI matches to date, and England have won 38 to Sri Lanka's 36. There has also been 1 draw and 3 no results. While history is basically sitting on the fence here, current form isn't, despite the fact that they are both on two points from their first four matches.
When I look at both of these teams and how their bowlers and batsmen have played in this tournament so far, I think that Sri Lanka will be confident of picking up their second win. England have more pressure on their shoulders as they do not want to hand over their title with a whimper. Pressure is something that can make athletes do some very weird things.
There is not a lot of experience in this Sri Lanka side, but they have a lot of quality in their team, and I can see their bowling unit causing plenty of problems for an underperforming England batting line-up. If the Sri Lankans bat first and get a score over 300, I can see England crumbling and crashing out of the competition.
If you want to bet on Sri Lanka to come out on top, then Spreadex Sports are currently offering odds of 3.25.
England's Top Batsman Winner: Joe Root to Win
It is hard to select a top batter for England at the moment as they are either out of form or inconsistent. I have decided to select Root as England's top scorer because he is their best batter and has been a bit more consistent than his teammates at this World Cup. Although they have many big hitters, the wicket of Root is still the big one for opposing teams as he still scores fast when he gets in.
Those who want to back Root to top score can find odds of 4.33 at William Hill.
Sri Lanka's Top Batsman Winner: Kusal Mendis to Win
I have been watching cricket for some two decades now, and I can always remember Sri Lanka having quality batsmen to choose from. Who can forget the likes of Dilshan, Jayawardene, Jayasuriya, or Sangakkara, for example? They do not have anyone of such ilk at the moment, but Kusal Mendis is not too far away in ability. He might not be the strongest batsman out there, but his precision and technique allow him to find the boundaries with ease. If England bowl as poorly as they have done, he will have a field day.
William Hill are offering odds of 4.00 for anyone who wants to bet on Mendis to top score for Sri Lanka.
England's Top Wicket Taker: Adil Rashid to Win Top Wicket Taker
If Reece Topley was going to play, then I would have put my money on him without a second thought. He has been England's best bowler by a mile in the three games that he has played, but a broken finger picked up against South Africa has put a premature end to his competition. Therefore, I have decided to go for Adil Rashid instead as he has the ability to slow down a team's run rate and pick up wickets based on scoreboard pressure.
Those who want to bet on Rashid to be the best bowler for England can find odds of 4.00 at William Hill.
Sri Lanka's Top Wicket Taker: Dilshan Madushanka to Win Top Wicket Taker
There have been some impressive performances from youngsters at this World Cup, and 23-year-old Dilshan Madushanka is a player that has really impressed me. He picked up the key wickets of Warner, Smith, and Labuschagne against the Aussies, and he picked up four wickets against the Netherlands to help his team to their first win. I can see him causing the English batsmen a load of problems with his pace and variation.
If you think that Madushanka will take the most wickets for Sri Lanka, then William Hill have odds of 3.75 on offer.
