If you are after some great entertainment on the 13th of October, then you should consider tuning in to watch England take on Afghanistan at New Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium. There have been plenty of runs scored at this stadium already, so anyone in attendance might want to wear some extra head protection as it could be raining cricket balls. Will England pick up an expected win, or will Afghanistan get their first points on the board? Well, take a look at my betting tips below as well as the odds from top UK cricket betting sites.
💯 England v Afghanistan Betting Odds
Whether you opt to gamble at new UK betting sites or experienced ones, there will always be plenty of cricket betting markets due to how popular this sport is in Britain. Three of my favourite cricket markets are match winner, top batsman, and top bowlers, and below I have given you the betting odds for such markets for this England v Afghanistan game:
Match Winner Odds: England v Afghanistan
Below you can find the match winner odds for England v Afghanistan:
Team | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
England | 1.05 | 1.05 | 1.11 | 1.08 | 1.09 |
Afghanistan | 6.00 | 6.00 | 6.50 | 5.50 | 7.50 |
Top Batsman Odds: England v Afghanistan
One of the best cricket markets for me is the top batsman one as it offers its users plenty of potential entertainment value as well as long odds. With this type of market, you have to try and predict the batsman from a team that will hit the highest score. In the event of a tie, the batsman who hit the most runs having faced the fewest balls will win.
Below I have given you the top batsman odds for three batsmen from each team that I feel are in with the best shout of winning this market:
England:
Player | ||
---|---|---|
Joe Root | 4.00 | 3.00 |
Dawid Malan | 4.00 | 3.00 |
Jonny Bairstow | 4.00 | 3.25 |
Afghanistan:
Player | ||
---|---|---|
Rahmanullah Gurbaz | 5.00 | 3.20 |
Ibrahim Zadran | 5.00 | 3.00 |
Rahmat Shah | 6.00 | 3.50 |
Top Wicket Taker Odds: England v Afghanistan
If you are not entirely sure which batsman to put your hard-earned money on, then you might be happy to hear that you can bet on the bowlers as well. You can try and predict the most successful bowler with the top wicket taker market - in the case of a tie, the economy of the bowlers will come into the equation. Below are the top wicket taker odds for three bowlers from each team:
England:
Player | ||
---|---|---|
Reece Topley | 4.50 | 3.25 |
Mark Wood | 4.33 | 3.75 |
Adil Rashid | 4.33 | 3.50 |
Afghanistan:
Player | ||
---|---|---|
Rashid Khan | 3.50 | 2.50 |
Mujeeb Ur Rahman | 4.33 | 3.75 |
Abdul Rahman | 5.00 | 6.00 |

🔍 England v Afghanistan Match Winner Prediction
England are one of the big favourites to win the World Cup, so it is not surprising to see such short odds for them in this match against Afghanistan. They got off to a losing start against New Zealand in the first match of the competition, but they managed to bounce back with a convincing 137-run win against Bangladesh. If they play on Sunday how they did against Bangladesh, then I see nothing but an England win.
Afghanistan are a team that keeps on improving, so England will not take them lightly. They will be well aware that if they rock up on Sunday just expecting a routine win, then they might have some proverbial egg on their faces. Afghanistan's middle order is weak, and this has cost them so far in this competition, but their bowling attack has the potential to cause some problems, especially if there is some turn for Rashid Khan.
I do not believe that Afghanistan have the batting talent to chase down a big total or put enough runs on the board, so my money is on England to be victorious. However, the odds, in my opinion, are too short to consider putting down a wager.
My England v Afghanistan Winner Prediction: England to Win
✔️ England v Afghanistan CWC Betting Tips
It is time for some betting advice for this England v Afghanistan game:
Match Winner: England to Win
These countries have played just the two ODIs against each other, and those who support Afghanistan will not want to remember the last time that they took on England. It was at the 2019 CWC, and England hit 397 runs, thanks largely to a fantastic 148 from 71 balls by Eoin Morgan. In their reply, they could only manage 247/8 as Adil Rashid and Jofra Archer picked up three wickets each.
This match will take place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, which is not the biggest around and is known to be quite the high-scoring ground. It is quite possible that Afghanistan's bowlers are already having a sense of dread about this match.
Afghanistan's bowling attack can give the best teams issues on their day, but I believe that they will be let down by their batting once more. Therefore, my money is on England to win, putting their first match defeat firmly in the rearview mirror.
If you would like to put your money on England to win, then William Hill are offering odds of 1.11.
England's Top Batsman Winner: Joe Root to Win
Joe Root is England's best batsman, and he has been in good touch in the first two matches with a 77 against the All Blacks and an 82 against Bangladesh. He is very good when it comes to playing top-quality spin bowlers, so I feel like he might dominate Afghanistan's spinners and end up being England's top scorer in the match.
If you would like to put money on Root to be England's top scorer, then William Hill are currently offering odds of 4.00, which is very decent in my opinion.
Afghanistan's Top Batsman Winner: Rahmanullah Gurbaz to Win
For me, the best batsman in this Afghanistan team is Rahmanullah Gurbaz, which is the reason why I am backing him to top score against England on Sunday. In their first two matches, he got himself in but then got out before having the chance to hit a big score. As one of their opening batsmen, he bats when there are fielding restrictions in play, which is a big advantage for the top batsman market.
If you want to back Gurbaz to be Afghanistan's top batsman, then William Hill currently have odds of 5.00 available.
England's Top Wicket Taker: Reece Topley to Win Top Wicket Taker
For their last match against Bangladesh, I predicted Reece Topley to come into the team and be the top bowler for England - he took four wickets in the match, including 3 in the PowerPlay to squash Bangladesh's slim hopes of a win. He has had his injury issues but is looking back to his very best, and batsmen seem to not be able to cope with his extra height.
Those who want to back Topley to be England's top wicket taker can find odds of 4.50 at William Hill.
Afghanistan's Top Wicket Taker: Rashid Khan to Win Top Wicket Taker
When it comes to picking Afghanistan's top wicket taker, I am always tempted by Rashid Khan due to how good he is. He is one of the few players in the Afghanistan team that would be picked by any other team in this competition. He is extremely economical, which usually leads to him picking up wickets due to the batsman trying to do something different in order to score off him. It would not surprise me if he collected 2-3 wickets against England.
If you would like to bet on Khan to be the top wicket taker for England, then William Hill currently have odds of 3.50 on offer.
